The Mental Health Association of Monmouth County is excited to announce the launch of its new three-part training series, Beyond the Connection, designed to equip community helpers with the tools to foster meaningful conversations, provide a listening ear, and connect individuals with mental health resources. This initiative is open to anyone who regularly interacts with others and wants to strengthen their ability to support those facing mental health challenges, whether you’re a hairstylist, bartender, dentist, or simply someone looking to make a difference in your community.

The Beyond the Connection series explores suicide prevention topics, such as active listening, crisis intervention, and connecting individuals to mental health services at a local, state, and national level. Each session builds upon the previous, offering valuable insight into how small changes in communication can lead to meaningful impact.

The training will be led by Marney Rohda, a skilled suicide prevention specialist funded through the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County’s Adult Suicide Prevention Grant from the Monmouth County Division of Behavioral Health.

“Beyond the Connection equips community members with the tools to make a real difference in someone’s life,” said Erin Murphy, LPC, Senior Director of Clinical Services at MHA Monmouth. “By teaching people the skills to listen and connect, we’re empowering them to take an active role in supporting those who may be going through a mental health crisis. The work we’re doing is preventative and more crucial than ever, especially given the mental health challenges facing so many today.”
